In early 2006 the 15 GP Practices in Basingstoke came together to
form a practice based commissioning organisation called Calleva
Medical Ltd.
Calleva Medical has a board of seven GP voting directors and a
company secretary. The directors and company secretary are nominated
and elected by the GP Practices and sit as representatives of the 15
Practices. Board member elections are held every 24 months. Calleva
Medical employs a business manager who sits as a board member but
does not have a vote. Other specialist staff are employed as
necessary.
Other non-voting members of the board are social services, patient
group representatives and the area PCT.
Calleva Medical Ltd is responsible for advising the PCT on the best
health care services to commission on behalf of their patients from
acute trusts, mental health trusts and community service providers.
